When looking at your portfolio’s there is quite a lot to observe. Here’s a list of criteria that I use when I evaluate your sketches. I have grouped them in categories and have accompanied them with the relevant competency areas from the ID curriculum.

Progress
Self-Directed and Continuous Learning
Improvement of overall quality
Effort – sketches show labor and dedication (volume of work / updated blog)
Learning – sketches show corrections and adjustments (perspective / proportions)
Experiment – sketches show investigative attitude
Style – sketches show development of a personal style
Personal reflection (motivation / progress / value of skills)

Exploration mode
Ideas and Concepts / Form and Senses / Design and Research Processes / Teamwork and Communication
Quantity – pages should be filled with (blue pencil) sketches
Variety – sketches show experiment (shape / size / perspective)
Development – sketches show evolution of thought (idea / shape)
Understanding and construction of perspective

Communication mode
Form and Senses / Teamwork and Communication
Application of markers (smoothness / gradients)
Shading (tone values)
Level of contrast
Line quality (fluency / variable line width)
Composition (backgrounds / frames)
Application of arrows and text
Communicative value

Figures / faces

    I will be starting to prepare a proper portfolio for myself in a month and over a period of a year or two…and will make sure these things are covered… šŸ™‚

    I mostly sketch cars… and am interested in taking up Automobile Design! Hope I learn alot from your posts!
